Treasurer's Office Renovations to Begin April 9

The Treasurer's Office located in the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) is scheduled to begin renovations on Saturday, April 9. The office will be operational, but there may be delays for patrons.

Payments of taxes and water bills will be accepted at our satellite office located at 3670 Leonardtown Road, Suite 105, Waldorf. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Construction is expected to last 30 to 60 days.

April 18 Planning Commission Meeting Canceled

The Charles County Planning Commission meeting originally scheduled for Monday, April 18 is canceled.

The next regular meeting of the Planning Commission is scheduled for Monday, May 2 at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners' meeting room at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata).

Commission for Women 20th Anniversary Gala Ticket Sales Continue through April 15

There is just one week left to purchase tickets to the Charles County Commission for Women's 20th Anniversary Gala event on Saturday, April 23. Join the 2016 Commission for Women members as they celebrate and acknowledge women who are trailblazers in our community. A limited number of tickets are available for purchase online at www.CharlesCountyMD.gov/CCCW/Gala through April 15. Individual tickets are $55/per person, and tables of 10 are available for $475 each.

More than 50 distinguished Charles County women honorees received nominations for the Trailblazers Award. Winners in each award category will be announced during the April 23 event.

"We are very excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Commission for Women by acknowledging those phenomenal women in our community making a difference for women and families," said Maxine Somerville, Charles County Commission for Women chair.

Commissioners Proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

On Tuesday, April 5, the Charles County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Charles County. Every child should have every chance in life, every chance at happiness, and every chance at success. Parents, guardians, educators, community leaders, doctors, law enforcement, neighbors, and faith-based practitioners play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect and in helping young victims recover. The Commissioners urge all citizens to work together to help reduce child abuse and neglect significantly in years to come. Commissioners Proclaim Fair Housing Month

On Tuesday, April 5, the Charles County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April 2016 as Fair Housing Month. Charles County is proud to join the U.S. of Housing and Urban Development, and Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development in celebrating the 48th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. The Fair Housing Act guarantees the right of all Americans to dwell in the neighborhood of their choice and promotes equal housing opportunity.

Commissioners Proclaim Public Health Week

On Tuesday, April 5, the Charles County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the week of April 3-9 as Public Health Week in Charles County. Strong public health policies and systems are critical for sustaining and improving community health. The Commissioners recognize the Charles County Department of Health's commitment to improving the health of all Charles County residents, and encourage residents to observe the week by helping others better understand the value of public health and preventive lifestyle habits.

Commissioners Proclaim April 10-16 as Volunteer Recognition Week

Visit your local volunteer fire department and rescue squad April 10

On Tuesday, April 5, the Charles County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the week of April 12 through April 18, as National Volunteer Recognition Week. During this week, the Charles County volunteer fire departments and rescue squads join the Maryland State Firemen's Association for a unified recruitment drive. Recruitment and retention is one of the biggest challenges facing volunteer fire departments. Volunteers comprise 100 percent of Charles County's fire service.

The Charles County volunteer fire departments and rescue squads will open their doors on Sunday, April 10 for "Recruit Charles County," an open house recruitment day.
