CALLAWAY, Md. (Feb. 29, 2016)—Michael Sullivan Bauckman, age 41, of California, Md. died as a result of injuries received in a single vehicle accident Friday around 10:34 p.m. Police are still investigating the circumstances; but the initial conclusion is that speed appears to be a factor in the collision. Police say it is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
Police in St. Mary's Co. were called to the area of Three Notch Road and South Sandgates Road for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision. First responders discovered the operator was trapped in the vehicle and was unresponsive. Due to the severity of the injuries, members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit were requested.
Preliminary investigation revealed Bauckman was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road in a 2012 Nissan Murano. For unknown reasons, Bauckman's vehicle left the roadway and entered the culvert in the median. As the vehicle traveled up the culvert, it was launched into the air before rolling over and coming to rest on the northbound shoulder. Bauckman was transported to Prince George's County Shock Trauma by Trooper 7, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
