WHITE PLAINS, Md. (Feb. 9, 2016)—One woman lost her life in a four vehicle collision in White Plains Saturday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 8:39 p.m. on US Route 301 at Billingsley Road.
A preliminary investigation conducted by troopers from the La Plata barrack indicates a Toyota Avalon, operated by Charles Brockett of Chesapeake, Virginia was traveling northbound on US Route 301 at Billingsley Road in lane two approaching the red signal. At that time, a Ford Focus, operated by Harold Rice of La Plata, along with his front seat passenger, Theresa Wise of Waldorf, was traveling eastbound on Billingsley Road crossing US Route 301 on the green signal. Mr. Brockett failed to stop at the steady circular red signal and struck the Ford on the passenger side of the vehicle in the intersection. The collision forced the Ford Focus to strike a Honda Accord, operated by Jeanine Church of Charlotte Hall, and a Pontiac Vibe, operated by Danielle Boatman of Indian Head, who were stopped on westbound Billingsley Road at the traffic light for US Route 301.
As a result of the collision, the passenger, Theresa Wise, was flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 2 to Medstar Washington Hospital Center where she was pronounced deceased. Brockett and Rice were transported to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Church and Boatman were not injured as a result of the collision.
Police say that upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Charles County States Attorney's Office for determination of charges. The investigation is continuing.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call Cpl. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police Crash Team at (301) 392-1231 or the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack at (301) 392-1200.
