Vacant House Burns in Prince Frederick


CALLAWAY, Md. (Feb. 8, 2016)—A two story vacant house, located at 5100 Leitches Wharf Road, Prince Frederick, burned last night. A passer-by on Route 231 discovered the fire and alerted authorities around 8:11 p.m.

The one-alarm fire involved 40 firefighters from Prince Frederick VFD, Huntingtown VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Benedict VFD, Hughesville VFD, and St Leonard VFD. It took them approximately 2 minutes to bring the fire under control.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Damages are estimated at $50,000 to the structure.

The area of origin and preliminary cause are under investigation.

Deputy Fire Marshall Z. Dell conducted the initial investigation.
