Fire Destroys Mobile Home in Waldorf


CALLAWAY, Md. (Jan. 11, 2016)—A fire completely destroyed a mobile home Sunday morning around 5:40 a.m. The occupant, Charles Proctor, was displaced and is being assisted by both family and the American Red Cross.

State fire marshals estimate the damages at $35,000 for the structure and $35,000 for the contents.

The home is located at 9701 Hoppy Place, Waldorf.

The fire originated in the kitchen and was discovered by the occupant. There was a smoke alarm present, but, the occupant reported that it did not activate. The preliminary cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The one alarm fire involved forty firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Potomac Heights, Indian Head, and Bryans Road VFD's and Several Prince George's County Fire Department stations. It took approximately 30 minutes to control the fire.

The fire was investigated by Deputy Fire Marshal J. Nelson.
