Three Arrests in Two Robberies



LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Dec. 30, 2015)—Police in Calvert and St. Mary's have arrested 3 suspects they believe are responsible for two separate robberies. Donald Strickland, age 36, and Joseph Eckloff, age 32, both of Lexington Park, were charged in connection with an armed robbery in California on Dec. 6. Brett Lott, age 34, of Friendship, was charged in connection with a gas station robbery in Dunkirk on Dec. 29.

Two citizens victim of armed robbery; one injured in California

On December 6, at approximately 11:23 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to the areas of Sugar Maple Court and the nearby Wawa gas station in California, for a report of an assault with an injured subject. The injured subject, along with a second victim, also reported to be the victims of an armed robbery.

The injured victim was found to be suffering from multiple head wounds that required transport via Maryland State Police Helicopter "Trooper 7" to a local area trauma center.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded and assumed the investigation.

The subsequent investigation by CID detectives, crime lab technicians, and the CID Support Team led to the identification of suspects Donald Strickland, age 36, and Joseph Eckloff, age 32, both of Lexington Park.

On December 28, arrest warrants were obtained by CID detectives for both suspects in connection with the armed robbery. Both Strickland and Eckloff were arrested by CID detectives on December 29, without incident and were incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

Both suspects were charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Assault 1st and 2nd Degree, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Theft Less than $1,000.

BP Gas Station in Dunkirk robbed

On December 29, at approximately 2:00am, Calvert deputies were dispatched to the BP Gas Station located on West Chesapeake Beach Road in Dunkirk for the report of a robbery. A lone suspect jumped over the counter, removed money from the cash register and was able to flee on foot.

A canvas of the area was conducted with the assistance of the Maryland State Police, Anne Arundel County Police and Deputy T. Smith and his K-9 partner, Loki.

Thirty-four year old Brett Lott, of Friendship, Md., was later identified as the person responsible for the robbery. The suspect was apprehended and taken to the detention center, where he was charged with strong armed robbery.
