Charles Co. Arts Alliance Awards $45,000 in Grants

WHITE PLAINS, Md. (Dec. 24, 2015)—On Saturday, November 21, the Charles County Arts Alliance awarded $45,000 in arts grants to 14 local nonprofit organizations and 7 schools to support upcoming countywide cultural events during FY 2016. The grant award ceremony was held during the Annual Grantee and Membership Gala at the Old Waldorf School.

The grants support a myriad of cultural programs and events to be held in Charles County throughout the year, such as concerts and theatrical performances, art gallery presentations, workshops and demonstrations, music competitions, international and cultural performances, and literary development.

The Arts Grant Program has been the focal point of the Arts Alliance since the volunteer nonprofit organization was founded in 1987. The purpose of the Program is to enhance the quality of cultural life for the citizens of Charles County, and help make it a more vibrant, exciting and diverse place to live. The grants are awarded on an annual competitive basis following an application process and review by the Arts Alliance Grant Committee, comprised of board members and local citizens.

Over the past 28 years, the Alliance has awarded approximately $650,000 in grant funding on a competitive basis to qualified local nonprofits and schools to partially support their cultural programming in the performing, visual and literary arts.

"The residents of Charles County and the surrounding area can look forward to experiencing a wide variety of programs and performances that showcase local talent," said grant committee chair Emily Ferren. "The Charles County Arts Alliance applauds each and every applicant. Plan to attend by watching our CCAA website, Arts Newsflash, and local news media for details."
