CSM Adds WeatherBug Station to La Plata Campus

LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 18, 2015)—CSM has added a WeatherBug Weather Station to its La Plata Campus to become part of an 8,000-member global network that is providing data that can be used by local forecasters, farmers, aviators, hobbyists, construction professionals and any other person in the community whose work or recreational activity is weather dependent.

“I thought the WeatherBug installation would be a valuable tool for the students taking Physical Geography,” said CSM Social Sciences and Public Services Professor Dr. Art Viterito. “It is a great community resource, and helps to fulfill the college's mission of education and service to the community.”

The state-of-the-art, commercial-grade weather station antennae installed on the roof of the Community Education (CE) Building tracks different parameters and provides accurate wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, heat index, wind chill, barometric pressure and dew point. In addition, the station collects daily, monthly and yearly rainfall totals and averages.
