LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 16, 2015)—The College of Southern Maryland has named Angela Thornton as director for the Corporate Center. Possessing an extensive background in both workforce development and economic development within the state of Maryland, Thornton strives to bring full circle an array of experience building relationships between state and local agencies, institutions of learning and the business community.
“I believe that a strong economy consists of a well-trained workforce which meets the needs of today's employer as well as skills necessary for the future,” she said.
The Corporate Center at CSM offers comprehensive training, education and consulting for organizations seeking to increase employee productivity and organizational efficiency. Tracks include acquisition management, computer office skills, human resource management, leadership, project management, and workforce and communication skills. In addition, the Corporate Center works with Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s chambers of commerce to bring nationally recognized trainers to provide Southern Maryland with high-caliber programs at a reasonable price.
Thornton maintains extensive working relationships with Maryland businesses, state agencies, chambers of commerce and non-profit organizations which provide her insight into what skills are necessary for advancement and economic growth, she said.
She has served on the boards of directors for Charles County Chamber of Commerce, Hospice of Charles County and Community Foundation of Southern Maryland. Through these roles she learned the importance of successfully building relationships within the business community.
