Discarded smoking material causes $450,000 in damages to home
A fire caused a large amount of damage to a two story single family house fire located at 5460 Ingersoll Place in Waldorf on Nov. 23 around 4:02 a.m.
Fifty firefighters from Hughesville, Waldorf, Benedict, and Prince Frederick VFDs took 40 minutes to control the fire.
Investigators say the owner of the house, Pamela Blandford, woke up to the smell of smoke and discovered a fire along the front porch outside the home. She was able to gather her pets and escape without injury before calling 911 from a neighbor's house. The investigation revealed the fire started on the front porch where a pot was situated for discarded cigarette butts. There were no reported injuries and the occupants are being assisted by family and friends.
Damages are estimated at $400,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents.

Two sheds in Dunkirk burn
A fire destroyed two 10' x 14' wooden sheds located at 10300 Deer Trail Dr., Dunkirk, Calvert Co., on Nov. 25 at 1:41 p.m.
Six firefighters from Dunkirk VFD took 10 minutes to control the fire.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor. Damages are estimated at $3,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents.
Maryland State Fire Marshal personnel are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
Burned BMW discovered in Waldorf
A Charles County Sheriff's Officer, who was on routine patrol, discovered a partially burned 2003 3 Series BMW parked on the side of Piney Church Road, near Poston Road in Waldorf on Nov. 26 at 5:00 a.m.
Investigators determined that the cause was incendiary and started on the front floor board. Damages are estimated at $3,000. The car is registered to Rudolph Thomas.
The investigation is continuing. Anybody who has information about this fire is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at 443-550-6835.
