Charles Co. Awarded $1,380,000 Federal Loan for Community Dev. Center in Bel Alton

WASHINGTON (Nov. 20, 2015) --- The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDARD) has awarded a $1,380,000 federal loan to Charles County to establish a Community Development Center in Charles County. Rural Development funds will be used to renovate the former Bel Alton High School located at 9505 Crain Highway into the Bel Alton Community Development Center.

“This funding is an investment in improving the lives of Maryland children and families, giving them the opportunity for a brighter future.” said Senator Barbara Mikulski, Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee which funds USDARD. “These funds will help provide a safe and much needed community center where the residents of Charles County can learn, grow and play.”

The Rural Development grant program was created to improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. The program helps support essential services and infrastructure improvements, and promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through banks and community-managed lending pools.
