MSP Reports for St. Mary's Co.


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 28, 2015)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT, VEHICLE THEFT, MDOP, CHILD NEGLECT: On Saturday, August 22, at 2:16 am, TFC E. Mersman responded to A&M Glass in Great Mills for the report of a Malicious Destruction of Property. Investigation revealed that Rodney O. Runnels, 27, of Lexington Park had entered the tow lot and entered a vehicle. An employee attempted to quickly close the gates to prevent him from taking the car. Mr. Runnels accelerated and struck the gate, causing damage to the gate and forcing the victim to fall to the ground. Mr. Runnels then drove through the grass and continued onto Point Lookout Road.

TFC Mersman then responded to Mr. Runnels' residence, where it was determined that Runnels had fled out the back door, leaving a young child awake and alone. The mother of the child responded to the residence and contacted Mr. Runnels to advise him to return to the residence. Mr. Runnels returned to the residence, and was advised he was being placed under arrest. Mr. Runnels immediately began to flee on foot. After a short pursuit, Mr. Runnels was taken into custody and charged with Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Theft Less than $1,000, Child Neglect, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, and Malicious Destruction of Property Less than $1,000. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. (15-MSP-030194)

THEFT, TRESPASSING: On Thursday, August 27, at 3:53 pm, TFC E. Krenik responded to the intersection of Town Creek Drive and Spruce Drive for a theft suspect fleeing from Walmart. TFC Krenik arrived on scene and located Ariel Lynn Watson, 22, of Great Mills standing with the Walmart Loss Prevention Officer. Investigation revealed that Ms. Watson had stolen several items and had attempted flee through the parking lot. She threw two of the stolen items into a yard on Town Creek Drive while fleeing. Ms. Watson was arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. She was charged with Tresspass: Private Property and Theft: Less than $100 and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. (15-MSP-030894)
