La Plata Police Department Activity Report


LA PLATA, Md. (May 1, 2015)—The La Plata Police Department today released the following activity report. It is intended to give an overview of the criminal activity within La Plata and is not a complete listing of all events and crime reported to the department.

THEFT: On April 30, 2015 at 0829 hours, officers responded to 40 Shining Willow Way for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that at approximately 9:17 p.m. on April 29, 2015, two suspects stole eight bundles of firewood from in front of the store.

BURGLARY: On April 29, 2015 at 2044 hours, officers responded to the 100 block of Kalmia Court for the report of a fight. Investigation revealed that the suspect entered an unlocked home and attempted to fight one of the residents. The suspect was told to leave the home several times, but refused to do so. Several other occupants in the residence forced the suspect out of the home. The suspect was located and charged with burglary.

THEFT: On April 28, 2015 at 1529 hours, officers responded to 60 Shinning Willow Way for the report of a theft. During an inventory, it was discovered that a Garmin GPS was missing. Investigation, including a review of video surveillance, revealed that the suspect tampered with the item's security web and later fled the store. Further investigation developed the suspect's identity. Charges are pending.

THEFT: On April 27, 2015 at 0107 hours, officers responded to 5955 Crain Highway for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that the suspect consumed food items while in the store. The suspect was charged with theft under $1000.

THEFT: On April 27, 2015 at 1200 hours, an officer responded to 5955 Crain Highway for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that the victim noticed that her cellphone was missing from her jacket pocket after exiting the store. A review of the store's video surveillance revealed to suspicious activity.

DUI ARREST: On April 26, 2015 at 0237 hours, an officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Crain Highway and Heritage Green Parkway for an equipment violation. While interviewing the driver, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Sufficient clues were observed during standardized field sobriety test to indicate the driver was under the influence of an intoxicant. The driver was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

BURGLARY: On April 26, 2015 at 2200 hours, an officer responded to 6705 Crain Highway, Deluxe Inn, for the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) unknown entered the victim's hotel room by unknown means and stole prescription medication.

DUI ARREST: On April 26, 2015 at 0030 hours, an officer observed a vehicle run through a red light on Crain Highway at Rosewick Road. While interviewing the driver, the officer noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Sufficient clues were observed during standardized field sobriety test to indicate the driver was under the influence of an intoxicant. The driver was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER: On April 25, 2015 at 2001 hours, an officer responded to the 600 block of Piscataway Court for the report a violation of a protective order. Investigation revealed that the suspect appeared at the victim's home in violation of the order. The suspect fled the area prior to officers arriving. Charges have been filed.

THEFT: On April 24, 2015 at 1750 hours, an officer responded to the 1000 block of Savanna drive for the report of theft. Investigation revealed that between April 13th and 14th, suspect(s) unknown entered the victim's unsecured motor vehicle and stole loose change and personal items.
