LA PLATA, Md. (April 21, 2015)The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: Sometime between 8 p.m. April 16 and 6:50 a.m. April 17, unknown suspect(s) stole a vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 3800 block of Kearnys Inn Place in Waldorf. The vehicle was later located on the shoulder of Mattawoman Beantown Road near Idlewood Park. The passenger side window was shattered and the ignition was removed. Officer D. Arends is investigating.
POSSESSION OF DRUGS: On April 16 at 7:42 p.m., officers responded to Sugar Mill Court in Waldorf for the report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers located the car and observed marijuana in plain view. A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of promethazine with codeine syrup, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a loaded gun. Devon Navarre Kennedy, 20, of Waldorf was arrested and charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute, drug-trafficking and possession of a handgun. Officer A. Duckett is investigating.
WARRANT SERVICE: On April 16 at 11:46 p.m., officers were patrolling Charles Street in La Plata when they observed a suspicious car. Investigation revealed the license plates did not belong on the vehicle and the car was not insured or registered. Officers approached the vehicle and an occupant fled on foot. Corness Maro Gray, 48, of Waldorf, was located and a check revealed he had an open warrant. Officer A. Coulby investigated.
MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On April 16, members of the Warrant Unit, along with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested Robert Derek Sims, 26, of Waldorf who was wanted in connection with a first-degree assault that occurred on April 12 in the 9600 block of Daffodil Place. During the assault, Sims fired gunshots at an acquaintances unoccupied car after the two argued. Sims was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a loaded handgun, using a gun in a violent crime and malicious destruction of property. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center.
