La Plata Police Department Activity Report


LA PLATA, Md. (April 20, 2015)—The La Plata Police Department released the following activity report. It is intended to give an overview of the criminal activity within La Plata and is not a complete listing of all events and crime reported to the department.

MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION: On April 16 at 2146 hours, an officer on routine patrol on Box Elder Road, Tilghman Lake, discovered a malicious destruction that had occurred to the grassy area. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) unknown damaged a grassy area of park with a vehicle.

THEFT: On April 16 at 2015 hours, officers responded to 40 Drury Drive for the report of a shoplifting. Investigation revealed an off-duty officer observed an individual concealing an electronic item on his person. The suspect was charged with theft under $1000.

THEFT: On April 16 at 0852 hours, an officer responded to 9400 Chesapeake Street, Patuxent Inn, for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that the suspect stole the victim's keys and fled the area. The suspect was located and stopped by a Charles County Sheriff's Officer. He was subsequently charged with theft.

DOMESITIC ASSAULT: On April 14 at 1612 hours, officer responded to the 300 block of Jennie Run Drive for the report of an assault in progress. Investigation revealed that during a domestic dispute the suspect assaulted his mother. The suspect was arrested and charged with assault.

THEFT FROM AUTO: On April 14 at 0735 hours, officers responded to the 1000 block of Savana Drive for the report of a theft from auto. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) unknown rummaged through an unsecured vehicle and stole a set of key and approximately $40 in U.S. currency.

MALICOUS DESTRUCTION: On April 12 at 1230 hours, an officer responded to the 100 block of Kalmia Court for the report of malicious destruction. Investigation revealed that during the overnight hours an unknown suspect(s) punctured the left rear tire of the victim's vehicle.

DUI ARREST: On April 12 at 0139 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Crain Highway near Catalpa Drive on a vehicle being driven erratically. Upon interviewing the driver, the officer noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The driver failed to cooperate with field sobriety test. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION: On April 12 at 0922 hours, an officer responded to the 600 block of Zekiah Run Road for the report of a malicious destruction. Investigation revealed that the victim observed the suspect throw a piece of concrete threw the kitchen window.

THEFT FROM AUTO: On April 11 at 1027 hours, an officer responded to Bobwhite Court for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) unknown rummaged through an unsecured vehicle and stole an electronic item and loose change.

THEFT FROM AUTO: On April 11 at 1021 hours, an officer responded to Finch Court for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) unknown rummaged through an unsecured vehicle and stole loose change.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT: On April 11 at 0330 hours, officers responded to the 100 block of Kalmia Court for the report of a domestic assault. Investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim were engaged in a verbal altercation when the suspect struck the victim in the head with an IPad. The victim was transported to Charles Regional Medical Center for medical intervention. The suspect was arrested and charged with assault.

ASSAULT: On April 10 at 2320 hours, officer responded to 5 Garrett Avenue, Charles Regional Medical Center, for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed that the suspect entered the Emergency Department and demanded to see a relative. When hospital staff informed the suspect that the relative was not at the hospital, the suspect assaulted the victim who is an employee of the hospital. The suspect was arrested and charged with assault.

ASSAULT: On April 10 at 2050 hours, officers responded to the 600 block of Zekiah Run Road for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed that the first suspect knocked on the victim's door and asked the victim if she wanted to fight. When the victim declined to fight, a second suspect produced a can of pepper spray and sprayed its contents into the apartment. The two suspects fled the area.
