Pomfret Fire Claims One Life


Victim remains unnamed until authorities confirm identity

POMFRET, Md. (March 21, 2015 ) A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating a fire which claimed the life of an adult male victim. The fire at 5350 Harley Place in Pomfret, Charles County, was reported just after 2 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters arrived on scene and discovered a male victim in the bedroom of the home.

The home is described as a one story single family home. Investigations have determined that the fire originated in the master bedroom of the home. Family members reported hearing smoke alarms sounding after discovery of the fire. Nearly fifty firefighters controlled the fire in twenty minutes time from numerous area departments.

The victim will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the identification and cause of death. The Charles County Sheriffs Department is assisting in the investigation. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing at this time. Further details of the victim, including confirmation of identification, and fire cause will be released as additional information is developed.
