Two Suspicious Fires Under Investigation


CALLAWAY, Md. (Feb. 5, 2015)—Maryland State Fire Marshals are investigating two suspicious fires; one in Charles County and one in St. Mary's County.

Trash container set on fire in Apartment building

A small fire was located in a trash container in the laundry room of Chancellors Run Apartments located at 45882 Chancellors Run Court in Great Mills. The fire occurred around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Twelve firefighters from Bay District VFD had the fire under control within a few minutes.

The fire was discovered by an occupant of the apartment complex. Damages are estimated at $1,000.

Stolen trailer set ablaze

Unknown suspect(s) towed a stolen enclosed cargo trailer to a remote location on Covington Road and intentionally set it on fire around 2:35 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. The trailer was stolen on January 26, 2015.

Six firefighters from Hughesville VFD had the fire under control within ten minutes.

The fire was discovered by a passing motorist. The damages are estimated at $5,000.
