BPW Approves $125,000 for County to Buy 0.5 Acre Parcel

Saint Mary’s County will receive $125,000 of Program Open Space funds to acquire a half-acre property at the intersection of Mechanicsville Road and Church Lane as part of phase six of the Three Notch Trail. The trail is being constructed on the county-owned railroad right-of-way, which runs south from Hughesville in Charles County, to Lexington Park, to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The purchase will provide additional open/green space, protect the Three Notch Trail’s viewshed, and buffer the trail from further encroachments.

The funds were approved by the Board of Public Works at its Dec. 17 meeting. The three-member BPW is comprised of Governor O’Malley (chair), Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot. The BPW is authorized by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
