The St. Andrews Landfill, six convenience centers and St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will be closed on Thursday, December 25 in observance of Christmas and Thursday, January 1, 2015 in observance of New Years. In addition, the six convenience centers will open early for operations the week of December 22 - 26 (specifically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) The early opening is a convenience to our customers and allows for the anticipated increase in usage of the facilities by County residents during the busiest time of the holiday season. Landfill hours of operation will remain 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. during this time. The STS System will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the observed holiday.

As a reminder, Christmas trees will be collected at the landfill and convenience centers free of charge. Undecorated trees may be placed in designated areas beginning December 26 and continuing through January 31, 2015. Last year, the County collected nearly 5 tons of Christmas trees, which were mixed with collected yard waste and ground into mulch for use by the Department of Recreation & Parks and the Department of Public Works & Transportation for maintaining County property. Nearly 5,000 tons of mulch is produced annually at the St. Andrews Landfill site and is provided to the citizens of St. Mary's County free of charge depending on availability.

All three St. Mary's County Library locations (Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown and Lexington Park) will be closed Wednesday, December 24, Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday. The libraries will reopen Saturday, December 27 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The libraries will also close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31 and remain closed all day Thursday, January 1, 2015 for the New Years holiday. All locations will reopen Friday January 2 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

All three Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler and Northern) will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 24, 25 and 26 for Christmas and Thursday and Friday, January 1 and 2, 2015 for New Years. There will be no home delivered meals on those days.
