Maryland State Police Reports

badgeAssault, Road Rage

On Friday, November 28, at 4:40 pm, Tpr. C. Ditoto was conducting a patrol check of the Charlotte Hall Wawa. Tpr. Ditoto observed a male, later identified as David Thomas Bever, 47, of Brandywine, laying on the ground unconscious. EMS was notified, and Mr. Bever was flown to Prince George's Shock Trauma for further treatment.

Investigation revealed that a possible road rage incident had occurred in the parking lot of the Wawa involving two motor vehicles. A white Ford van was occupied by Mr. Bever and Robert Lee Robinson, 51, of Hughesville. A white Chevrolet truck was occupied by a male, 47, of Charlotte Hall. A verbal altercation occurred after the Ford van pulled out in front of the Chevrolet truck. Mr. Robinson and Mr. Bever exited the Ford van and began to punch and kick the Chevrolet truck and spit on the victim in the driver's seat of the vehicle. The incident escalated further when Mr. Robinson attempted to enter the victim's vehicle through the driver's side window. At that time, the driver of the Chevrolet truck attempted to drive away from the scene when he felt his vehicle run over something. He immediately stopped and exited his vehicle and discovered that Mr. Bever had been struck. While the driver of the Chevrolet truck was checking on Mr. Bever, Mr. Robinson pulled out a silver knife and lunged towards the victim. At that time, Tpr. Ditoto arrived on scene and stopped any further confrontation.

Robert Lee Robinson, 51, of Hughesville, Md.

Mr. Robinson, pictured above, was arrested and charged with Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, and Disorderly Conduct. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

Mr. Bever was initially at Prince George's Shock Trauma in critical condition at the time of this press release.

The investigation has been assumed by the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division with assistance from the State's Attorney's Office.
