Local Government Schedule Changes for Columbus Day


CALLAWAY, Md.—Local governmental entities have announced the following schedule changes in observance of the Columbus Day holiday, which is officially observed on Monday, Oct. 13.

Calvert County Government

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 13.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Oct. 13. Meals on Wheels will be delivered to clients.

All Calvert Library locations will be closed Monday, Oct. 13.

There will be no public transportation services Oct. 13. Regular schedules will resume Tuesday, Oct. 14.

All solid waste sites will be open Oct. 13.

Northeast Community Center will be open Monday, Oct. 13; all other county community centers will be closed.

Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, Flag Ponds Nature Park and Kings Landing Park will be open for regular hours on Oct. 13.

The Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center, Calvert Marine Museum, Breezy Point Beach and Campground and Chesapeake Hills Golf Course will be open for regular hours Oct. 13.

Charles County Government

The following offices will be closed for normal business hours:

-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville

-- All Senior Centers

-- The Nanjemoy Community Center

The following offices will be open normal hours:

-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg

-- VanGO will operate on a regular weekday service schedule

-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah

-- Curbside recycling collection service will not be affected

-- Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center and Port Tobacco Recreation Center

-- School based community centers

-- Lackey and North Point High indoor pools

-- Charles County Parks

-- Charles County Public Library (All branches)

St. Mary's County Government

All St. Mary's County Government Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, October 13. County offices will re-open on Tuesday, October 14.

The St. Andrews Landfill, Solid Waste/Recycling Program and six convenience centers will be open for normal operating hours and St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will operate on its regular schedule on Monday, October 13. The SSTAP program and senior nutrition centers will not be open on Monday, October 13.

All St. Mary's County Libraries and Department of Aging and Human Services Senior Activity Centers will be closed Monday, October 13. There will also be no Meals on Wheels deliveries.

Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)

The MVA will close all offices on Saturday October 11 and Monday, October 13. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also close.

Customers are encouraged to go on-line to complete their MVA transaction. The days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet.

Driver’s license and identification card renewals are offered online through the MVA’s website: http://www.mva.maryland.gov available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The MVA also offers vehicle registration renewals, changes of address, the scheduling of a driver’s skills test, personalized license plates, certified driving record and many more transactions online.
