Administrative Appointment Announced

Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointment made by the Board of Education at its meeting of September 23, 2014.

The Board appointed Mr. Michael Boyle as Supervisor of Career and Technology Education and Academy of Finance in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development. Mr. Boyle is currently a Career and Technology Education teacher at Chopticon High School. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and a Master's degree from Centenary College. Mr. Boyle has been with St. Mary's County Public Schools for 15 years as a teacher at Chopticon High School.

This appointment becomes effective Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

Threatening Call - Leonardtown High School

On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, a single report of a nonspecific verbal threat was received at Leonardtown High School (LHS) As a result, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. A coordinated response was initiated immediately with school and law enforcement officials. The school's administration followed the emergency response protocols outlined in the St. Mary's County Public Schools (SMCPS) School Crisis and Emergency Response Plan and continually worked with law enforcement authorities to complete the investigation. The building was cleared for use at approximately 2:25 p.m. and the school prepared for a normal dismissal at that time. All after school and evening activities at LHS were cancelled.
