CALLAWAY, Md.—A 14-year-old female has been arrested and charged with making several threats against Leonardtown High School. The threats disrupted school activities and caused much concern among many parents as word spread throughout the community. Her name has not been released due to her age.
On Thursday, September 18, a telephone call was received at Leonardtown High School indicating there was a destructive device in the school. The school was checked by police and nothing was found. On September 24, two telephone calls were received at the school indicating there were persons in the school with guns. The school was placed on lockdown and the school searched. No weapons were located.
Detectives from the Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to the school and initiated an investigation into the origin of the calls. As a result of that investigation, detectives identified the girl as the person making the false threats from inside the school on both occasions.
The juvenile was placed under arrest, transported to the sheriffs office, charged with making a false statement concerning a destructive device, regarding the September 18th incident and disruption of school activities regarding Wednesday's incident.
The juvenile was placed into the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services and transported to Waxters Childrens Center
in Laurel pending further action by juvenile authorities.
