Coherent Technical Services Selected for Advance Maryland Program

ANNAPOLIS—Governor O’Malley, Lt. Governor Brown, and Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore (EAGB) President Tom Sadowski on Sept. 22 announced that eight Maryland companies have been selected to participate in second annual Advance Maryland, the State’s business program targeted at supporting second-stage companies.

Coherent Technical Services, Inc. (CTSi), based in Lexington Park, was the only company selected from the tri-county southern Maryland area.

The program is designed to follow an “economic gardening” strategy, allowing existing companies to grow from within by using critical strategic information customized to their needs.

By partnering with the National Center for Economic Gardening, Advance Maryland is able to provide eight to 12 hours of strategic research services to each of the selected applicants. This month, research teams will begin meeting with the companies to identify goals, opportunities, and strategies, while offering recommendations and next steps to help develop and grow the business. Projects during this collaboration may include prioritizing sales leads and refining business models, as well as using social media to connect with customers and create buzz about products and services. DBED and EAGB will monitor companies for one year to determine their progress.

“Advance Maryland is about taking strategic action to support CEOs and help them grow their business. Their success in turn helps grow our economy, add valuable jobs and provides fertile ground for the success of other business owners and entrepreneurs,” noted Tom Sadowski, President and CEO of the EAGB.

CTSi was founded in 2005 and is a small, veteran owned company focusing on technical solutions and services for the Department of Defense, NASA and commercial customers. For more info, visit http://www.goctsi.com/ .

Tri-State Marine, Receives Admiral’s Circle Award and Excellence in Service Award, for 16 Consecutive Years

DEALE—Tri-State Marine has received the Grady-White Boats’ Admiral’s Circle Award, and the Excellence in Service Award, for the model year 2014. This is the 16th consecutive year that Tri-State Marine has earned these two awards ranking it among the premier dealerships in the country.

Admiral’s Circle Awards are given in recognition of exceptional achievement in both sales and customer service. They are bestowed only to the top dealerships in the nation who’ve achieved at least $2 million in retail sales plus received top customer satisfaction index scores from buyer surveys.

Tri-State Marine is a locally-owned company that has been doing business in Deale, Maryland since 1965. Next year they will be celebrating their 50-year Anniversary and the proud role they have played in South Anne Arundel County’s history. Uncommon in modern business, 80% of their 30 employees have been working together for over 20 years creating a solid organizational structure. Tri-State Marine is a dealership for Grady-White and Parker Boats, Yamaha Motors, and EZ Loader Trailers. It has the largest indoor boat showroom in Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

“Our team is very proud to have consistently earned this honor from Grady-White Boats year after year.” said Tri-State Marine’s president, John Byrnes. “While we have a great reputation amongst our customers, it’s also very gratifying to be recognized by the boating industry as well.”

Tri-State Marine’s length of time in business is notable and rare, especially when 40% of boat dealers went out of business during the 2009 recession – a business blow that hit the Chesapeake Bay region especially hard. During this Great Recession, boat production was slashed in half and the boating business virtually stood still. Byrnes had to utilize extreme and conservative accounting measures, make tough strategic decisions, and move quickly to manage inventory. Navigating the company during this time period was the most difficult business challenge of his career.

“We survived only because we didn’t lose our loyal customer base.” Byrnes explains. “Most of our customers are repeat buyers so the decades of high-quality service that we had been giving them was returned in the form of steadfast clients. Today, we are still extremely grateful and ever mindful that our customers are the only things continuing to keep us in business. Also during that terrible recession I decided to keep most of our expert staff guaranteeing that we could continue to deliver our exceptional service. It was difficult to manage each year, but we did and those guys are still with us today! Approaching our 50th Anniversary we are fortunate to have a legacy of loyal customers and loyal staff – all part of what makes us a great company.”

Tri-State Marine will be presented with these awards at Grady-White’s National Sales Conference to be held in Greenville, NC in December of this year.

“Tri-State Marine has proven their dedication to their customers by demonstrating exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of the sales and service experience.” stated Joey Weller, Grady-White’s Vice President of Sales. “Grady-White is very pleased and honored to have Tri-State Marine representing our brand. Their expertise in our fine products along with providing incredible service for their customers sets a standard that other dealers strive to replicate.” said Weller.
