Opportunity to Say Farewell to Dr. Martirano
Dr. Michael J. Martirano, Superintendent of Schools, will be departing from his position to serve as the State Superintendent of Schools for the State of West Virginia, in a few weeks. The school system is hosting an "Open House" to say farewell on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center, 24005 Point Lookout Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650, as follows:

-- 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Parents, Students, and the Community)

Administrative Appointment Announced
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael J. Martirano, announces the administrative appointment made by the Board of Education at its meeting of August 27, 2014.
The Board appointed Ms. Sarah Carstens as School Psychologist in the Department of Student Services. Ms. Carstens was previously serving as the Data Analyst for Title I schools in Newport News Public Schools in Virginia. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a Master's degree from Towson University. Ms. Carstens completed her School Psychologist internship with Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland.
This appointment will be effective immediately.
Chopticon High School Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Chopticon High School is celebrating 50 years of Tradition, Spirit, and Pride Inside. The celebration will kick-off during Homecoming Week.
Alumni are invited to a reception on September 17 from 6:30 7:30 PM in the school auditorium. Students will provide tours of the building. At 7:30 PM, everyone will meet at the lower field by the football stadium for a traditional homecoming bonfire.
On Thursday, September 18, the Homecoming parade will begin at 4:45 PM followed by a varsity football game at 6:00 PM.
Alumni Games will be held on Saturday, September 20. Alumni are invited to compete against each other in softball, field hockey, and flag football from 9:00 11:00 a.m. For planning purposes, alumni will need to email Mr. Williams at sjwilliams [at] smcps.org if they are planning to participate in the Alumni Games.
