Charles Co. Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (August 7, 2014)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ARMED ROBBERY: On August 6, officers responded to Promenade Place in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Sometime between 12:15 a.m. and 12:47 a.m., the victims said they were outside talking when two male suspects wearing masks approached them and brandished what appeared to be a gun. The suspects stole a cell phone, wallet, hat, car keys and a shirt before they fled the scene on foot in the direction of Dorchester Circle. PFC D. Butler is investigating.

THEFT: On August 6 at 8:40 a.m., officers responded to the Residence Inn in the 3000 block of Technology Place in Waldorf for the report of theft. Upon arrival, officers learned that sometime between 8:30 p.m. on August 5 and 8:30 a.m. on August 6, unknown suspects broke into a vehicle and stole $6,000.00 worth of camera equipment and some other items totaling $300.00. The suspects also damaged the window frame of the car. Officer M. Cassarubias is investigating.

ROBBERY: On August 5 at 6:49 a.m., officers were patrolling the Bryans Road area when they were stopped by a citizen for the report an assault. The victim said he got off the VanGo bus around 10:00 p.m. on August 4 and was walking through the park when he was approached by four black males who assaulted him. The suspects stole his cell phone and wallet. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene. Officer M. Cassarubias is investigating.

THEFT: On August 3, officers responded to La Plata Road in La Plata for the report of a theft. Sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the victim’s garage through an unlocked window. Once inside, the suspect stole three motorcycles and other riding equipment. The motorcycles are described as one red Honda CRF150F5, one red Honda XR250R with a number five sticker on the front and one green Kawasaki KLX125A3. The suspect also stole a black Diamondback mountain bike. Officer E. Gass is investigating.

DRUG ARREST: On August 1 at 1:30 p.m., PFC R. Kimble conducted a traffic stop on Rock Point Road in Newburg. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer witnessed the passenger throw a bag out of the vehicle. Officer Kimble detained both occupants and located the bag. The bag contained crack cocaine and marijuana. A search of both occupants of the vehicle was conducted and additional drugs were recovered. Randall Lee Loyd, 52, of Marion, Indiana was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Barry Conrad Cooper, 45, of Newburg was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute narcotics, distribution of narcotics, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

DRUG ARREST: On August 1 at 2:02 a.m., Officer S. Hooper was patrolling the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel in the 3500 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf when he observed a suspicious vehicle. After approaching the vehicle, the officer observed marijuana in plain view. A search of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine and cash. The estimated street value of the cocaine was $2,000.00. James Thomas Neal, 23, of Waldorf was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and several other charges. Ravon Deyon Burnside, 20, of Lexington Park, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. Officer Hooper investigated.

ATTEMPTED MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: On August 1, officers responded to Bellwood Drive in Pomfret for the report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. Sometime between 9:00 p.m. on July 31 and 7:00 a.m. on August 1, an unknown suspect broke into a vehicle and got it started. After investigation, it appeared the suspect tried to back out of the driveway but hit a tree and then left the vehicle at the residence. PFC J. Foster is investigating.

THEFT: Sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on July 30, 400 pounds of used copper wire was stolen from a residence located in the 4000 block of Doncaster Drive in Indian Head. Cpl. R. Cadrette is investigating.

BURGLARY: Sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on July 30, unknown suspects gained entry into a residence on Cheryl Turn in Waldorf. Once inside, the suspects stole four flat screen televisions, purses, cash, a gun and ammunition. The suspects also flattened the tires of vehicles parked in the victim’s garage. PFC C. Barrows is investigating.

RECOVERED PROPERTY: On July 30 around 5:00 p.m., Officer J. Campbell responded to the 8200 block of Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret for the report of recovered property. A resident found a black laptop computer, Hewlett-Packard Mini 311, in the grass of his residence near the roadway. Officer J. Campbell is investigating.

ROBBERY SUSPECTS ARRESTED: On July 12 and July 14, two separate victims were assaulted and robbed in the 100 block of St. Patrick’s Drive in Waldorf. The suspects were identified as Delanta Maurice Coates, 27, of Waldorf and Mark Joseph Wallace, 28, of Waldorf. Warrants were issued for both suspects. On July 31, officers from the Warrant Unit located and arrested the suspects. Coates was charged with first-and second-degree assault, robbery and theft under $100.00. Wallace was charged with first and second-degree assault, robbery, theft under $100.00 and theft under $1,000.00.
