St. Mary's Co. Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 8, 2014)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT: On June 3, a victim reported her purse was stolen while shopping at the Kohl’s Department store in California. Case remains open. Case #30054-14.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE: On June 3, a victim, who resides on River Road in Tall Timbers, reported unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle and stole property. Case remains open and is assigned to Corporal Ross. Case #30035-14.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE: On June 3, a victim, who resides on River Road in Tall Timbers, reported unknown suspects entered two unlocked vehicles and stole property. Case remains open and is assigned to Corporal Ross. Case #30041-14.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE: On June 4, a victim, who resides on Millers Wharf Road in Ridge, reported unknown suspect(s) entered the unlocked tool box on his truck and stole property. Case remains open and is assigned to Deputy Tirpak.

VANDALISM: On June 4, Deputy D. Smith responded to a residence on Falling Leaf Lane in California. The victim reported unknown suspect(s) punctured a tire on the victim’s vehicle. A second vehicle belonging to another victim in the same neighborhood also had a tire punctured. Case remains open. Case #30240-14 and 30243-14.

COPs UNIT APPREHENDS SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT: On June 4 at 5:05 PM, members of the Lexington Park COPs UNIT received information sexual assault suspect Michael Jahrome Powell, age 19, was at a residence on Midway Drive. Deputies responded to the residence and located Powell hiding in the basement. Powell was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Powell remains incarcerated on NO BOND for charge of rape and received a $10,000.00 (100%) bond for robbery charge.

FATAL ACCIDENT IN CLEMENTS: On June 5 at 6:53 PM, deputies responded to the area of Colton's Point Road and Oakley Road for a motor vehicle accident. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Kia Forte operated by Amber Dawn Jarboe, 22, of Mechanicsville, was traveling south on Colton's Point Road. For unknown reasons, Jarboe lost control and the vehicle crossed the centerline. Jaroboe overcorrected and her vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle struck and embankment, continued airborne, overturned, and Jarboe, who was unrestrained, was ejected. The vehicle continued and struck a tree. Jarboe was pronounced dead on the scene. A child, age 3, was also in the vehicle at the time of the collision and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in this collision. Anyone who may have witnessed this accident, who has not already come forward, is asked to contact Corporal Brian Connelly at 301.475.4040.
