CALLAWAY, Md.—Local governmental entities have announced the following schedule changes and closings in observance of the Memorial Day holiday which is officially observed on Monday, May 26.
Calvert County Government
All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, May 26.
The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed May 26. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered to clients May 26.
All Calvert Library locations will be closed Saturday, May 24, through Monday, May 26.
There will be no public transportation services May 26. Regular schedules will resume May 27.
All Solid Waste facilities will be closed Monday, May 26, and will open for normal business hours May 27.
The Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center and Calvert Marine Museum will be open for visitors. Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, Flag Ponds Nature Park and Kings Landing Park will be open normal hours.
Charles County Government
The following offices will be closed for normal business hours on Monday, May 26 or as indicated:
-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville
-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center on Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah
-- VanGO services
-- All Senior Centers
-- The Nanjemoy Community Center, Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, Port Tobacco Recreation Center and all other Community Centers
-- Curbside recycling will be delayed one day for the first part of the week. Monday A collection will take place on Tuesday and Tuesday A collection will take place on Wednesday. There are no changes to Thursday A and Friday A routes
-- Charles County Public Library (All branches - Saturday, May 24 thru Monday, May 26)
The following offices will be open for normal or modified business hours:
-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg operating normal hours.
-- Lackey and North Point High indoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. 9 p.m.
-- Charles County Parks operating normal hours
St. Mary's County Government
County Government administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 26. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 27.
The St. Andrews Landfill and six convenience centers will be closed. The St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not operate on Monday, May 26. All will be open for normal business the day before and day after the observed holiday.
The three St. Mary's County libraries and all Senior Activity Centers will be closed and there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries on Monday, May 26. All will resume their normal operating schedules on Tuesday, May 28.
Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)
The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will close its full-service and express offices on Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26, 2014. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also be closed. These closures are in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday in addition to complying with the statewide service reduction plan. MVA and VEIP stations will reopen and routine operations will resume on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
Customers are advised that the days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and they are encouraged to go online to complete their MVA transaction. Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet (www.mva.maryland.gov) with eMVA.
