Accountant Charged with Embezzling $20,000+ from Prince Frederick Company


CALLAWAY, Md. (April 3, 2014)—Maryland State Police report that on March 21, Virginia Wilson Hunter, age 58, of Owings, was charged with 30 counts of various theft and embezzlement charges, to include theft ranging from $10,000 to under a $100,000.

During the month of June 2013, investigators from the Maryland State Police-Criminal Enforcement Division-Central South Region were contacted by Calvert County State's Attorney, Laura Martin, and requested to investigate an alleged embezzlement. The victim is the owner of a commercial real estate development & construction company in Prince Frederick. Hunter is the victim's accountant, and was suspected of embezzling money from the company.

An investigation was conducted which revealed discrepancies in the company's bookkeeping. Further investigation showed that over a period of several years dating back to 2006, Hunter stole more than $20,000 from the Company.
