College to Host March 15th Gala Benefiting Summer 2014 Concert Series
ST. MARYS CITY, Md. (March 5, 2014)St. Marys College of Maryland and the Chesapeake Orchestra are pleased to present the 16th annual River Concert Series. The Series, under the musical direction of Professor Jeffrey Silberschlag, will continue this summer each Friday from June 20 through July 25, 2014, starting at 7 p.m., on the St. Marys College Townhouse Green. Concerts are free and open to the public.
The college and the orchestra have recently signed a new 3-year agreement continuing their partnership. Similar to the 2013 series, the agreement outlines the division of responsibilities between the college and the orchestra.
The River Concert Series has become a mainstay of the Southern Maryland community, bringing extraordinary musical talent to our own backyard, said St. Marys College Interim President Ian Newbould. We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Chesapeake Orchestra in bringing this wonderful tradition of enriching, family-friendly concerts to the community and our students. We look forward to this summers program and welcoming our friends and neighbors to our campus.
Bob Prine, president of the Chesapeake Orchestra board offered these thoughts: "The Chesapeake Orchestra is glad to be able join with the college to continue a tradition that has become such an integral part of summer in Southern Marylandgathering with friends, neighbors and colleagues to listen to great classical music and Jazz, performed by a wonderful combination of faculty, students and professional musicians, in a welcoming environment. I know, too, that the broader St. Mary's community will be delighted that these programs of superior music, in a beautiful and relaxed setting, will continue. The Arts Alliance promotes and supports the colleges cultural and arts-related activities and programs, including the River Concert Series.
On Saturday, March 15, the college invites the public to attend the 13th annual River Concert Series Gala. Participants will enjoy dinner and live music performed by the Chesapeake Orchestra "Jazz Combo." This event will be held, starting at 6 p.m., in the J. Frank Raley Great Room, Campus Center. Proceeds benefit the 2014 River Concert Series. Tickets are $120 per person, $800 for table of 8, or $1000 for a table of 10.
