St. Mary's Co. Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Jan. 13, 2014)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER: On December 30, 2013, Deputy First Class Green, Sheriff's Office Domestic Violence Coordinator, received information that suspect John Otha Dickens, 24, currently incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center, contacted the victim in violation of an active protective order. DFC Green's investigation revealed Dickens contacted the victim on December 30, 2013 by phone from the detention center. The phone contact was in direct violation of the final protective order issued on October 31, 2013 by Judge John Slade. Dickens was charged with Violation of Protective Order. Additionally, on December 27, 2013, Dickens was charged with 47 Counts of Violation of Protective Order by Deputy First Class Green by arrest warrant for violation of the same protective order by calling the victim repeatedly between November 2013 and December 26, 2013. Dickens was being held on a $500,000 bond at the time he committed the latest alleged violation.

INMATE FIGHT: On January 7, 2014, Deputy Schultz responded to the St. Mary's County Detention Center for a fight between inmates. The investigation revealed, while the victim inmate was eating breakfast his was struck in the head with a closed fist by inmate Dante Dean Thomas, 28, of Lexington Park. Thomas was charged with 2nd Degree Assault DOC Employee (inmate).

INMATE FIGHT: On January 7, 2014, Deputy Lawrence responded to the St. Mary's County Detention Center for a fight between inmates. The investigation revealed, inmate Charles William Cox III, 33, of no fixed address, threw a metal food tray at the victim inmate. Cox then picked up the tray and struck the victim head with it. The fight ended after the victim was able to gain control of Cox and correctional officers entered the dayroom. Cox was charged with 2nd Degree Assault DOC Employee (inmate).

OPEN WARRANT, DRUGS: On January 7, 2014, Deputy Bankhead conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Pegg Road and Midway Drive in Lexington Park after the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. A computer check revealed the driver, identified as Deanthony Travon Young, 24, of Lexington Park, had a warrant for his arrest. Young was placed under arrest at which time he told Deputy Bankhead he was in possession of a baggie of suspected marijuana. The marijuana was recovered by Deputy Bankhead. Young was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance - Marijuana and Possession Paraphernalia. The arrest warrant was also served for 2nd Degree Assault.

TRESPASSING: On January 8, 2014, Sergeant Safford of the Lexington Park COPs UNIT observed Joseph Kenneth Morgan, 50, of Callaway, on the property of 21614 Great Mills Road in violation of a no trespass notice. Morgan was served with the trespass notice by Deputy First Class T. Snyder on September 13, 2013. Morgan was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center by Deputy Beishline of the COPs UNIT. He was charged with Trespass: Private Property.

THREAT OF ARSON: On January 3, 2014, Deputy Manns responded to a residence on Coles Drive in Hollywood for the threat of arson. The victim told suspect Ryan William Mellott, 22, of Hollywood, he was not allowed at victim's residence. Mellott then threatened to burn the victim's home down. Mellott was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Threat of Arson.
