STEM Expo To Be Held

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) EXPO will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. The STEM EXPO is an opportunity for parents, students, community members, and anyone else interested in St. Mary's County Public Schools' STEM Academy, to ask questions and talk with current STEM students and teachers. Student work samples and exhibits will be on display during the EXPO. In the event of inclement weather, the alternate date will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

Water Main Break Closes Leonardtown High School

Leonardtown High School was closed Tuesday, January 7, due to a water main break. All other St. Mary's County Public Schools, including FULL day Head Start, had a delayed opening of two hours. A.M. Pre-Kindergarten and A.M. Head Start students did not have school. However, there were classes for P.M. Pre-Kindergarten and P.M. Head Start students.

Forrest Center Hosting Annual Tech Expo

The Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center (Forrest Center) will host its fourteenth annual Forrest Center Tech Expo on Thursday, February 6, 2014, 5:30-8:00 p.m., at the school site located at 24005 Point Lookout Road, directly across from the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown, Maryland.

The purpose of the Forrest Center Tech Expo is to familiarize students and parents with Career and Technology Education (CTE) career options offered by the St. Mary's County Public Schools. This is an opportunity to meet the staff at the Forrest Center and to learn about the 24 completer programs currently offered. Middle school and high school counselors will be available to answer questions about career clusters and to assist students in planning their academic program. The Forrest Center will provide special presentations for parents to explain the registration process and how to incorporate Forrest Center programs into their student's schedule.
