Charles Co. Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 7, 2014)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT: On Jan. 6 at 10 p.m., officers responded to the Bryantown Store in the 6400 block of Leonardtown Road for the report of a male who stole cash from the register and took an employee's purse. Officers set up a perimeter and a police canine team started a track which ended at a nearby farm. The suspect was described as being tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt, a black vest jacket, and blue jeans. PFC R. Brooks is investigating.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Jan. 6 at 2:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Bannister Circle and Addison Court for the report of a robbery. The victim reported she and her mother were walking in the area of Bannister Circle when a silver two-door sedan pulled up and a passenger in the car asked her for a cigarette. As the victim began looking for one, the suspect got out of the car, walked up to her, grabbed her purse out of her hands and jumped back into the vehicle and fled. The suspects are described as black males, possibly in their twenties. One suspect had a thin build and wore his hair in long dreadlocks. The other suspect was wearing a black rag over his head. Officer R. Smith is investigating.

THEFT FROM AUTO: Sometime between Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, someone broke into a car in the 2600 block of Hamilton Place in Waldorf and stole a DVD radio from the dash. PFC P. Morgan, III is investigating.

BURGLARY: On Jan. 5, during the overnight hours, someone broke into Wendy's at 3355 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf and stole money. Officer R. Smith is investigating.

WARRANT SWEEP: On Jan. 4 between 6 a.m. - 4 p.m., Officers J. Morales and M. Sokoloff conducted a warrant sweep in the District I area which includes La Plata and Bel Alton. They attempted to locate eight people who were wanted for failure to appear in court on various offenses. Four suspects were located: Nicole Durea Rather, 33, who was wanted for failure to appear in court for a traffic offense; Timothy Gregory Knott, 26, who was wanted for violating probation on an assault charge; Lakesha Shante Payton, 30, who was wanted for failure to appear in court on a theft charge and Robert Allen Krell, 30, who failed to appear in court for a traffic violation.

CALL FOR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY LEADS TO DRUG ARREST: On Jan.3 at 5:40 p.m. officers were called to a gas station in the 6300 block of Crain Highway in La Plata for the report of suspicious activity. Officer R. Kimble arrived and parked behind the suspect's vehicle. As Officer Kimble approached the car, the driver put the car in reverse and tried to escape, narrowly missing the officer. The driver was stopped and further investigation led to the recovery of drug paraphernalia and two marijuana cigarettes inside the vehicle. Dewitt Michael Clinton, 25, of Waldorf was charged with assault and possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Douglas Hamilton Dixon, 24, of Issue was charged with possession of marijuana.

OFFICER APPREHENDS BURGLARY SUSPECT: On Jan. 3 at 1:36 a.m., officers responded to Pueblo Circle in Indian Head for the report of a man trying to break through the back door of a house. When PFC J. Riffle arrived, he spoke with the homeowner who said the suspect fled. PFC Riffle noticed the suspect's footprints in the snow and followed a track and soon after, he observed the suspect. Officer Riffle ordered the suspect to stop but instead, the suspect fled. Officer Riffle was able to appended and arrest the suspect after a short pursuit. The suspect indicated he had been smoking PCP and thought he was at his girlfriend's house. The homeowner advised she did not know the suspect. Dwayne Antonio Butler, 26, of Indian Head was charged with fourth -degree burglary and resisting arrest.
