LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept. 20, 2013) The Delmarva Foundation awarded MedStar St. Marys Hospital the 2013 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement for the sixth consecutive year. This is the seventh year overall that the hospital achieved the foundations highest recognition.
This award represents exceptional teamwork and an unwavering commitment to Patient First by all of our hospital associates and physicians, said Christine Wray, FACHE, the hospitals president and senior vice president, MedStar Health.
The Delmarva Foundation recognizes hospitals that achieve excellence in patient safety and quality improvement in four inpatient clinical areas, including acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care improvement.
In order to achieve the award, the hospital must meet or exceed the following criteria:
-- Individual performance measure rate must be 90 percent or above on 14 required measures for every quarter of a calendar year.
-- An aggregate performance score of 96 percent or higher over the four quarters.
MedStar St. Marys aggregate score is 98.7 percent this year.
Every patient at MedStar St. Marys is someones son, daughter, father, mother or friend, said Joan Gelrud, hospital vice president. We owe patients a safe, successful experience. Agencies such as the Delmarva Foundation continually evaluate us against rigorous criteria so when we meet or exceed these standards, it tells patients they can have confidence in the care we provide.
