LA PLATA, Md. (Aug. 2, 2013)The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
POLICE K-9 AND PATROL OFFICERS APPREHEND BURGLARY SUSPECT: On July 29 at 1:33 a.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Gallery Place in Waldorf for the report of a burglary in progress. A female caller said she heard a loud noise by her door and when she investigated, she saw a male trying to break in. The woman called police but the suspect fled after he saw the woman on the phone. PFC J. Clagett quickly reviewed security footage and obtained a description of the suspect. Officers set up a perimeter and Sgt. J. Burroughs observed someone fitting the suspect's description run across St. Charles Parkway into a wooded area. Officers set up another perimeter and PFC L. Blake and his K-9 partner, Max, responded. Officer Blake and Max located the suspect hiding in the woods and the suspect, Terry Antonio Wheeler, 45, of Waldorf, was arrested without incident. It was learned the suspect had a prior relationship with the victim years ago but the victim did not recognize him in the dark. Wheeler was charged with fourth-degree burglary. Officer R. OFFICER RECOVERS POSSIBLE STOLEN PROPERTY: On Aug. 2 at 3:45 a.m., Sgt. J. Hastings was patrolling the area of Crain Highway near Industrial Lane in La Plata when he observed a man pushing a large trash can along the roadway. When Sgt. Hastings turned his vehicle around to investigate, the man fled into a wooded area. A perimeter was established but the suspect was not located. A trash can was found containing auto parts that may have been stolen. Officers are in the process of trying to determine who the owner of the property is. Sgt. Hastings is investigating.
OFFICERS SPOT DRUG TRANSACTIONS AND MAKE ARRESTS: On July 28 at 11:15 p.m., officers were patrolling the 3500 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf when they observed three people on the side of a business who appeared to be making a drug transaction. Upon further investigation, officers found marijuana. A computer check revealed one of the subjects was in violation of a protective order as well. Richard Mathais Pelzer, 25, of Waldorf, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a protective order; Chastity Marie Chamberlain, 22, of Waldorf, was charged with possession of marijuana; and Ernest Ware, 46, of Waldorf, was charged with possession of marijuana. THEFT OF BICYCLES: Between July 31- Aug. 1, unknown suspect(s) stole four bicycles which were left unattended in the 4600 block of Prestancia Place in Waldorf. The bikes are a Sun Tour men's road bike; a Trek model 8200, four series, gray and black; a blue Fugi road bike and a Hardrock specialized bicycle. Officers canvassed the area and located the helmets that were on the bikes as well as another bike that may have been stolen. PFC R. Bagley is investigating.
THEFT FROM AUTO: On July 31 between 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., someone broke out a window of a car in the 100 block of Post Office Road in Waldorf and stole two purses which were left inside the vehicle. PFC P. Morgan, III is investigating.
THEFT FROM AUTO: On July 31 between 7:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., someone broke out a window of a car in the 3000 block of Leonardtown Road in Waldorf and stole a duffle bag that was left inside. PFC P. Morgan, III is investigating.
THEFT OF LAWN MOWER: Between July 25 -July 30, someone stole a Husqvarna riding mower from an unlocked shed in the 6400 block of Rose Hill Road in Port Tobacco. PFC J. Walter is investigating.
OFFICERS ARREST ROBBERY SUSPECT: On July 28 at 9:47 p.m., a man entered a convenience store in the 6200 block of Crain Highway in La Plata and asked for change for a dollar. When the clerk opened the register, the suspect quickly jumped the counter and stole money; the clerk feared the man had a knife. Officers with the Town of La Plata police and the CCSO reviewed the surveillance footage and recognized the suspect as Emanuel Clifton Brown, 50, of no fixed address. He was quickly located nearby and arrested and charged with robbery. PFC. R. Herbert is investigating.
ALERT HOMEOWNER DISRUPTS POSSIBLE THEFT: On July 28 at 4 p.m., two males parked a Dodge pick-up truck in the 8300 block of Arthurs Court in Pomfret and got out of the vehicle. They walked through the woods to a shed and when they tried to open the shed, the homeowner saw them and yelled. The suspects fled before they could take anything. PFC. D. Sylvestre is investigating.
