Charles County's restaurants will showcase their creative cuisine and offer delicious deals during the first-ever Celebrate Charles: Restaurant Week, April 1-7, 2013.
Coordinated by the Office of Tourism, Restaurant Week will feature tasty offerings and unique dining experiences that draw on the region's bounty. Whether your favorite culinary choice is local seafood, mouth-watering barbecue, or something in between -Restaurant Week will be sure to delight your taste buds!
Participating restaurants will offer fixed-price, multi-course meals or specially priced single dishes. Tax, gratuity and beverages are not included in the price. Restaurants will still offer their regular menus during this promotional week.
The Celebrate Charles: Restaurant Week lineup currently includes: Dale's Smokehouse (Indian Head), The Prime Street Grille (White Plains), Port Tobacco Restaurant (Port Tobacco), Boston's The Gourmet Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar (Waldorf), Lefty's Barbecue Unlimited (Waldorf), Rita's Italian Ice (La Plata) and Brasas Rotisserie and Grill (Waldorf).

Current Vacancies for Commissioner-Appointed Boards, Committees & Commissions
The Charles County Commissioners are seeking county residents to fill vacancies on the following boards, committees, and commissions:

There is one vacancy on the Newly Established Neighborhood Traffic Calming Task Force for a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. This Task Force will assist the Department of Planning & Growth Management in developing a Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program in Charles County. The Task Force will research the subject as well as provide suggestions and feedback for use in drafting Neighborhood Traffic Calming regulations. Charge is complete when traffic calming regulations have been proposed and acted upon by the Board of County Commissioners.
There are three vacancies on the Heritage Commission for citizen members. The task of the Heritage Commission is to manage, procure, preserve and disseminate materials relating to the local history of Charles County. Members serve four-year terms.
There is one vacancy on the seven member Monument Commission. The vacancy is for a member with a background in history. This Commission will recommend locations for monuments; prepare guidelines, criteria and a plan for implementation of monument projects. The Commission will meet as necessary. Members will serve four-year terms.

Commissioners Celebrate F.B. Gwynn Educational Center Renovation
On Wednesday, March 20, the Charles County Commissioners joined the Charles County Board of Education for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new additions and renovations at the F.B. Gwynn Educational Center in La Plata, Md. The Commissioners presented a Charles County Seal to students, teachers and administrators from the Gwynn Center.
Commissioners Recognize Outgoing Chamber of Commerce President
On Wednesday, March 20, the Charles County Board of Commissioners recognized Mr. Carlos M. Montague, 2012 Charles County Chamber of Commerce president, for his outstanding service to Charles County. The Commissioners presented Mr. Montague with a framed Charles County Seal.
Planning Commission Application Period Re-opened
The Charles County Commissioners voted to re-open the application period for the Planning Commission. Applications are now being accepted. The deadline for submitting applications is April 5.
The Planning Commission has vacancies for three members who will each serve a four-year term. Planning Commission members are "citizen planners" as they are chosen from all walks of life. As such, formal planning experience or training is not required. The Planning Commission is involved in the drafting and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan, makes recommendations on re-zoning requests, and is the approval authority for subdivision of property in the county. Planning Commission members receive a stipend for service. Meetings are held twice monthly on Monday evenings at 6 p.m.
Citizens who submitted an application in fall 2012 do not need to re-apply. All applications will be considered. The County Commissioners will make appointments to fill Planning Commission vacancies by April 30.

Commissioners Celebrate Opening of Bel Alton Regional Dental Center
On Monday, March 11, the County Commissioners presented the Bel Alton Regional Dental Center with the Charles County Seal. Since opening in December 2012, the Bel Alton Regional Dental Center screened more than 900 students and provided dental and preventive services to more than 400 patients. The center provides affordable dental care for children and adults in Southern Maryland.
Men's Golf Lessons Offered at White Plains Golf Course
Learn the basic skills needed to become a confident golfer. White Plains Golf Course is offering two men's golf clinics in April. Each four-day session runs from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and costs $75. Sessions include proper golf course etiquette, safety, rules, grip, stance, posture, chipping, putting, irons, woods, and on-the-course instruction.
Session I - April 8, 9, 10 and 11
Session II - April 15, 16, 17 and 18
