LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 20, 2013)The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
FATAL TRACTOR ACCIDENT: 0n March 10, police units responded to a private farm in Leonardtown for the report of a farming accident. Upon arrival officers observed the victim lying beneath a farm tractor. The victim was transported by ambulance to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. BCI was contacted and assumed the investigation.
Following an investigation by BCI detectives, it was determined Robert T. Jarboe, age 79 of Leonardtown, was operating his farm tractor when he either inadvertently placed it into gear while exiting the tractor or fell from the tractor while it was in gear causing him to be thrown from the vehicle. Mr. Jarboe fell behind the tractor and was subsequently struck.
Mr. Jarboe was transported to the State Medical Examiners Office where an autopsy was performed.
YOUTH BASEBALL FRAUD: In February 2013, BCI initiated an investigation regarding a possible fraud involving an alleged local baseball organization. As a result of the investigation it was determined on September 20, 2012 Michael S. Erdolino, age 38, of no fixed address,
pictured above, self-established an organization named Southern Maryland Athletics Youth Baseball and actively recruited children for his team which would be based in St. Mary's County. Erdolino established a $500 registration fee per player and held multiple fund raisers at various locations in St. Mary's and Calvert County to fund the team. In return for payment of the registration fee, multiple victims advised they were promised baseball practices, team insurance, qualified instructors, uniforms and equipment. None of which occurred with the exception of a few practice sessions.
On February 7, 2013, Erdolino met with detectives and was unable to produce any documentation of the accounting for the alleged organization he had created. On March 7, 2013 Erdolino was arrested in Hollywood, Md. and charged with Theft $1,000 - $10,000, Theft Scheme $1,000 - $10,000 and 4 counts of Theft under $1,000. Erdolino was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was processed and released after posting a $5,000 bond.
MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN BALTIMORE: On February 7 at 9:25 p.m., police units responded to a private residence in St. Inigoes for the report of a robbery and shooting. Upon arrival police units discovered a male subject lying on the floor suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Robert L. McDowney, age 37, of St. Inigoes, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Arrest warrants were obtained for
James Kenneth Clay, Jr., age 35 of no fixed address,
(pictured above) after Clay fled from the scene and could not be located. A Grand Jury Indictment was obtained charging Clay with 1st Degree Murder, 2 counts of Armed Robbery, 2 counts of Burglary and Possession of Handgun during commission of a Felony.
BCI detectives contacted the Maryland State Apprehension Team U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating Clay. On March 12, Clay was located in Baltimore by members of the task force and taken into custody. BCI detectives responded to Baltimore and executed a search and seizure warrant at the residence where Clay was located. Clay was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he is currently being held on No Bond.
ARRESTED FOR NOT REPORTING TO SERVE JAIL SENTENCE:
Rayshawn Deontaye Douglas, age 23, failed to report to the St. Mary's County Detention as ordered by the Circuit Court for St. Mary's County to begin serving a 30 day sentence related to a theft conviction. An arrest warrant was issued for Douglas charging him with 2nd Degree Escape. He was later located and arrested.
ARRESTED FOR NOT REPORTING TO SERVE JAIL SENTENCE:
Lance Edward Crossley, age 34, failed to report to the St. Mary's County Detention Center, as directed by court order, on traffic related charges. Crossley was later located and arrested.
