LA PLATA, Md. (February 13, 2013)The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
PATROL OFFICER LOCATES GUN AND DRUGS IN CAR: On Feb. 11 at 1:48 p.m., Officer R. Kelly initiated a traffic stop in the area of Crain Highway and Festival Way in Waldorf. Upon contact with the driver, Officer Kelly detected the strong odor of marijuana and he found marijuana and a handgun inside the vehicle. The driver, Michael Jerome Horne, Jr., 25, of Forestville, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
FOOD STOLEN IN BURGLARY: Sometime between Feb. 10 - Feb. 11, unknown suspect(s) kicked in the front door of a house in the 9200 block of Montgomery Post Place in Nanjemoy and stole chicken, sausage, hot pockets and sodas from the refrigerator. The front door frame was damaged as well. PFC B. Moore is investigating.
THEFT SUSPECT APPREHENDED: On Feb. 10 at 4:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Capital Club House parking lot in the 3000 block of Waldorf Market Place for the report of a theft that just occurred. Witnesses reported observing a male suspect break out a window of a car and steal a purse that was left in plain view inside the vehicle. Another citizen saw the suspect and gave chase on foot. The suspect dropped the purse and ran toward a wooded area to try to get away but he tripped over a curb and was injured. Officers quickly arrived and located the suspect in the woods with what appeared to be a broken leg. The suspect, 36, of Temple Hills, was transported to a hospital where he was admitted. He will be charged with theft and destruction of property. Officer D. Proctor is investigating.
TOOLS STOLEN: Sometime between Feb. 9 - Feb. 10, unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked door to a detached garage in the 11900 block of Montgomery Lane in Waldorf and stole chainsaws and two propane tanks. PFC L. Sershen is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Feb. 10 at 5:45 p.m., three suspects broke into a house in the 3000 block of Prince Albert Square in Waldorf and stole a computer and a television. The suspects fled after a neighbor spotted them. Officers recovered evidence and processed the scene for additional evidence. Officer B. Clark is investigating.
MOTORCYCLE AND ATV STOLEN: Sometime between Feb. 9 - Feb. 10, unknown suspect(s) forced open a door to a shed in the 6100 block of Ripley Way in La Plata and stole a white 2008 Yamaha YZ-450 motorcycle and a red and white 2008 Yamaha Raptor ATV. Officer R. Glover, Jr. is investigating.
ATTEMPT WHEEL THEFT: On Feb. 9 at 1:50 a.m., unknown suspects pulled up to a house in the 11400 block of Wildmeadows Street in Waldorf and attempted to remove a wheel from a parked car. The car owner heard the suspects and when he went to confront them, they fled - possibly in a gold-colored passenger car. Officer A. Fenlon is investigating.
WHEEL THEFT: Sometime between Feb. 7 - Feb. 8, unknown suspect(s) stole four tires from a Dodge Charger parked in the 10400 block of Kentsdale Drive in Waldorf. PFC J. Williams is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Feb. 7 between 11:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m., unknown suspect(s) broke into a house in the 4000 block of Doncaster Drive in Indian Head and stole jewelry and several guns. Detective J. Feldman is investigating.
