CALIFORNIA, Md. (December 19, 2012)—Local governmental entities have announced the following schedule changes for the 2012 Christmas and New Year holidays.
Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)
All MVA offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations are closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday and the statewide budget reduction plan. The MVA and VEIP stations are also closed on Monday and Tuesday December 29 and January 1 for the New Years holiday and the statewide budget reduction plan.
The MVAs full-service and express offices and all VEIP stations will reopen on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 and January 2, 2013 at 8:30 AM.
Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet ( http://www.mva.maryland.gov/ ) with eMVA.
Calvert County Government
All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1.
The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, but will be delivered on Dec. 24.
Calvert Library locations will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25. Libraries will close at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, and be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Public transportation will not be in service on Monday, Dec. 24, Tuesday, Dec. 25 or Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Solid Waste sites will be open until noon Monday, Dec. 24. Sites will be closed Christmas day. On Monday, Dec. 31, sites will close at 4 p.m. and reopen for normal business on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The Calvert Marine Museum will close at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, and reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26. The museum will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Calvert County Public Schools
Calvert County Public Schools will close for several days this month as part of its winter break schedule. Winter break for all schools, centers and administrative offices begins Monday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 1. The school system resumes normal operating hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Charles County Government
The offices of Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, Tuesday, Dec. 25, Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
The Charles County Sanitary Landfill, Recycling Center, and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be open for normal business hours on Monday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 31 and closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. They will reopen for normal business hours on Wednesday, Dec. 26, and Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Every-other-week curbside recycling "blue bin" collection service will be affected by the holiday. There will be no pick-ups on Tuesday, Dec. 25 or Tuesday, Jan. 1. Those on the Tuesday "A" Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Wednesday, Dec. 26. Those on the Tuesday "B" Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Wednesday, Jan. 2. VanGO will be operating a reduced holiday schedule on Monday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 31. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Business A, Business B, and Charlotte Hall routes. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 6 p.m. on the Berry Road, Indian Head, Pinefield, St. Charles A, St. Charles B, and St. Charles C routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Bryans Road, and Nanjemoy routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point for Newburg will be at 4:30 p.m., and for La Plata will be at 6 p.m.

The Crain Memorial Welcome Center will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The Welcome Center will reopen for normal business hours on Wednesday, Dec. 26, and on Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Welcome Center is located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg. Charles County Public Schools
Charles County Public Schools will close for several days this month as part of its winter break schedule. Winter break for all schools, centers and administrative offices begins Monday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 1. The school system resumes normal operating hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
There is a two-hour early dismissal for students on Friday, Dec. 21. There will be no Threes program and afternoon prekindergarten students have class that day.

St. Mary's County Government
All St. Mary's County Government offices will be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 for the Christmas holiday. County offices will reopen for normal business hours on Wednesday, December 26. All County offices will also be closed Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in observance of New Years Day.
The St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not operate on Tuesday, December 25 or Tuesday, January 1. It will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the observed holidays.
The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers will be closed Tuesday, December 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday and Tuesday, January 1 in observance of New Years Day, respectively. The convenience centers will open early for operations the week of December 24 through December 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The landfill will be open for normal business hours during that week. Please call the St. Mary's County Department of Public Works and Transportation at (301) 863-8400 for additional information about the landfill, convenience centers, or STS bus service.
Residents are encouraged to bring their undecorated trees to the landfill and convenience centers following the holiday season. Last year, the County collected nearly 15 tons of Christmas trees at the Convenience Centers. Trees are ground into mulch and used by the Department of Public Works and Transportation and the Department of Recreation and Parks to maintain county property. Almost 5,000 tons of mulch is produced annually at the St. Andrews Landfill site and is available to citizens while supplies last.
All three libraries will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday and will reopen Wednesday, December 26. They will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 31 and be closed on Tuesday, January 1 in observance of New Years Day.
St. Mary's County Senior Activity Centers will be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday as well as Tuesday, January 1 in observance of New Years Day. Additionally, there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries on those days.
St. Mary's County Public Schools

College of Southern Maryland
The last day of classes for the College of Southern Marylands Fall 2012 semester and Minisession II was Monday, Dec. 17. The college will close at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21 through Tuesday, Jan. 1 in observance of the winter holidays. The college will resume its normal schedule Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m. During this time, access to the colleges online services, including registration, remains available at http://www.csmd.edu through my.CSMD services.

The college is closed on Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day with classes beginning for the spring 2012 full-term and Minisession I on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
