LEONARDTOWN, Md.—The St. Mary's County Health Department has established a deadline for the submission of Septic System Construction Applications. Wednesday, December 19, 2012 will be the last date the Health Department will accept applications for guaranteed processing prior to the January 1, 2013 regulation change.
The regulation, known as the Sustainable Growth and Agricultural Preservation Act of 2012 (Senate Bill 236), also known as the septics bill, was passed during the 2012 General Assembly session. The Maryland Register (Volume 39, Issue 19) published a final action on Maryland Department of the Environment 26.04.02 on September 21, 2012.
The December 19 deadline allows Health Department staff the necessary time to review and make determinations on permit requests. An approved site plan, prepared by a Maryland Registered Surveyor, is required prior to the submission of a Septic System Construction application. The Septic Construction application must be completed and filed on behalf of the property owner by a St. Mary's County Licensed Septic Contractor.
Questions regarding the deadline or the new regulation should be directed to the St. Mary's County Environmental Health Division at 301-475-4321.
