LA PLATA, Md.—The Charles County Board of Commissioners and the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSM) announced that Ms. Ruth A. Davis is the new director of regional workforce and economic development for TCCSM. In support of the Council's statutory mission as the regional economic development agency for Southern Maryland, Davis will implement the policies, goals, and objectives set by the regional Workforce Investment Board and oversee management of the operations of the region's One-Stop Career Center delivery system, the Southern Maryland JobSource. Davis will serve also as the liaison with federal, state, and local governments and community organizations in advancement of workforce and regional economic development efforts.
Davis has extensive business experience, having owned a small business in Southern Maryland and having held numerous leadership positions with Verizon, Bell Laboratories, and Bell Communications Research. She was hired by the Council in 2010 as a business services representative for the JobSource Workforce Program and spent six months working for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation as a project manager for discretionary grants. She most recently worked for TCCSM as the lead business services/discretionary grants manager and served on the director transition team up until her appointment on Oct. 29, 2012.
TCCSM serves as a forum for the resolution of region-wide issues and the attainment of regional goals. The Council is a partnership of state and local government, established in 1964 as the regional development and planning organization for Southern Maryland.
