Local Government Schedule Changes for Thanksgiving Holiday


CALIFORNIA, Md.—Local government entities have announced the following schedule changes in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

College of Southern Maryland

The College of Southern Maryland will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 25. The college will resume its normal schedule Monday, Nov. 26.

Access to online services, including registration, is available at http://www.csmd.edu/ through my.CSMD services.

Calvert County Government

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Nov. 22 and 23. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on Nov. 22 but will be delivered on Nov. 23.

All Calvert Library locations will be open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will be closed on Nov. 22 and 23. Libraries will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.

There will be no public transportation services Nov. 22-23. Regular Saturday service will resume Nov. 24.

All Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Nov. 22 and will open Friday, Nov. 23 for regular business.

County parks and museums and the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center will be closed Nov. 22 and re-open for regular business on Nov. 23.

Charles County Government

The Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23. The Charles County Landfill and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, only.

Every-other-week curbside recycling “blue bin” collection service will be affected by the holiday. There will be no pick-ups on Thursday, Nov. 22. Those on the Thursday “B” Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Friday, Nov. 23. Those on the Friday “B” Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Saturday, Nov. 24. Monday and Tuesday “B” Week service will not be affected.

Weekly yard waste curbside collection will also be affected by the holiday. Those with Thursday collection service will have their yard waste picked up on Friday, Nov. 23. Those with Friday collection service will have their yard waste picked up on Saturday, Nov. 24. Monday and Tuesday service will not be affected. There will be no VanGO service on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22. Regular, full VanGO service will resume on Friday, Nov. 23. For more information on VanGO transit service, call the Department of Community Services, Transportation Division, at 301-934-9305 or 301-870-3388.

The Crain Memorial Welcome Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and will re-open for normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 23. The Crain Memorial Welcome Center is located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg. Call 301-259-2500 to contact the Welcome Center.

The White Plains golf Course will take tee times up until 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22 and the Charles County Skate Park will be closed for the day. All other parks are open and operating under a normal schedule. All parks will resume regular hours on Friday, Nov. 23.

The Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, Port Tobacco Recreation Center, senior centers and the Nanjemoy Community Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lackey and North Point indoor pools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and will re-open on Friday, Nov. 23 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.

St. Mary's County Government

All St. Mary's County Government Offices will be closed Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. County offices will re-open Monday, November 26.

The St. Andrews Landfill, six Convenience Centers and St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will be closed Thursday, November 22, and will be open normal business hours on Wednesday, November 21 and Friday, November 23.

All three St. Mary's County Public Library branches will close at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, and remain closed on Thursday, November 22. The libraries will re-open Friday, November 23 for normal business hours.

All Senior Activity Centers will be closed Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 with no Meals on Wheels Delivery. Their normal schedule resumes Monday, November 26.

Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will close its full-service and express offices on Thursday, November 22 through Saturday, November 24. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also be closed. These closures are in observance of Thanksgiving Day in addition to complying with the statewide budget reduction plan. MVA and VEIP stations will reopen and routine operations will resume on Monday, November 26.

Customers are advised that the days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and they should check out wait times on the MVA website. Customers are also encouraged to go online to complete their MVA transaction. Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet at http://www.mva.maryland.gov. They include vehicle registration renewals and changes of address.
