Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (October 30, 2012)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: On Oct. 30 at 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 3900 block of St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf for an intrusion alarm. Upon arrival, officers found the front door window was shattered. Investigation showed unknown suspect(s) broke in and stole cartons of cigarettes. A police K-9 team checked the building with negative results. The scene was processed for evidence. PFC. M. Hancock is investigating.

TOOLS STOLEN: Between Oct. 26 - Oct. 29, unknown suspect(s) broke into a business in the 15200 block of Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville and stole tools and equipment. Officers processed the scene and recovered evidence. PFC D. Butler is investigating.

PATROL OFFICERS APPREHEND BURGLARY SUSPECTS: On Oct. 28 at 2 p.m., officers responded to the 4300 block of Rock Court in Waldorf after a citizen called to report a burglary in progress. A Charles County Sheriff's officer and a Maryland State Police officer arrived on the scene and apprehended two suspects who attempted to run. The investigation revealed the suspects attempted to enter through a basement window, but were unable to get inside. The suspects then walked to the rear of the residence and broke into a storage unit, which was attached to the residence. The suspects, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, were charged with burglary, destruction of property and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Officer D. Walker is investigating.

OFFICER APPREHENDS THEFT SUSPECT: On Oct. 28 at 3:40 a.m., officers responded to the area of Highland Place in Waldorf for the report of a man pulling aluminum gutters off of a house. Upon arrival, officers obtained a description of the suspect and searched the neighborhood. About an hour later, officers returned to the area and spotted the suspect walking between houses carrying a large piece of aluminum. The suspect dropped the aluminum and told officers he was in the area visiting a friend. The suspect, Harvey Lee Crone, 40, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with theft and destruction of property. PFC B. Moore is investigating.

PATROL OFFICER ARRESTS MAN WITH CRACK/COCAINE: On Oct. 27 at 4:19 p.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Weymouth Court in Waldorf for the report of a man slumped over the steering wheel of a black Chevrolet Suburban. Upon arrival, officers observed the man in the vehicle - the driver's side door and the rear hatch door were open. As officers woke the man, they observed a small, clear baggie in the vehicle containing suspected crack/cocaine. The man, Richard William Baker, 43, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with possession of crack/cocaine. POI V. Warker made the arrest.

BURGLARY: Between Oct. 26 - Oct. 27, unknown suspect(s) broke into a house in the 10400 block of Sextant Place in White Plains and stole jewelry, a computer and game systems. PFC B. Flynn is investigating.

BURGLARY REPORTED: On Oct. 25 at 6:35 p.m., officers responded to the 12700 block of Bar Oak Drive in Waldorf for the report of a burglary that occurred earlier in the day. The homeowner said she left the house for a while and when she returned, her back door was open. It appears money was stolen during the break-in. PFC I. Bier is investigating.

BURGLARY/SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: On Oct. 25 at 9:33 a.m., officers responded to the 5300 block of Flagfish Court in Waldorf for the report of a burglary that just occurred. Investigation showed the victim, 30, was asleep in her basement when she was awakened by a noise. She looked and saw a man standing in the room. The man told the victim he was not there to harm her or to steal anything, rather, he wanted to charge his cell phone. The victim ran upstairs to wake up family members and the suspect fled. The victim advised her door was possibly left unlocked by her children prior to leaving for school. The victim reported the incident approximately fifty minutes after it occurred and advised nothing was damaged or missing. The area was checked for any other victims or witnesses but no one reported anything unusual. The scene was processed for evidence. The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, mid twenties, about 6 feet tall, slender build, hair in short dreadlocks, wearing a white long sleeve sweat shirt with an unknown blue logo on the chest and blue jeans. The Criminal Investigations Divisions is investigating.

CALL FOR BURGLARY IN PROGRESS TURNS OUT TO BE DEER IN HOUSE: On Oct. 16 at 12:28 p.m., officers responded to the 2700 block of Stanford Place in Waldorf after a 13-year-old girl called 911 to report she had arrived home from school and saw a ground level window shattered. Thinking a burglary was taking place, the girl ran to a neighbor's house. When officers arrived, they observed damage to the window. A police K-9 team entered the residence and began searching room to room. Soon after, the officer and K-9 reached a back room where they found a deer inside, ramming the sliding glass door with its antlers trying to get out. Officers opened the door and the deer took off.
