LEONARDTOWN, Md.—The St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners has selected Dr. Meena Garg as Health Officer for St. Mary's County.
Dr. Garg comes to Southern Maryland from Indiana where she currently serves as Director of the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control at the Indiana State Department of Health as well as Medical Director for the state's Health and Human Services Commission.
In her current role Meena has guided strategic initiatives on the local and statewide level to address chronic disease prevention and control. Dr. Garg also worked with the Indiana University School of Medicine as a Volunteer Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine.
"Dr. Garg brings an impressive set of credentials to the position of Health Officer," said Commissioner President Jack Russell. "We are extremely fortunate to have her on board and feel the citizens of St. Mary's County will benefit from her wealth of experience."
Meena also serves on several professional boards, including the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians and the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians Commission on Health Services.
Dr. Garg replaces Dr. William Icenhower who retired in July after serving nearly 11 years as Health Officer. She officially assumes her new position on December 17.
