LA PLATA, Md.—The operations contract for VanGO --- Charles County's public transit service that operates both fixed route and specialized door to door programs --- has been awarded to a new vendor. The current contract is expiring and per County policy the services were competitively bid this past August. Five bids were received and the successful bidder, First Transit, has been awarded the transportation operations contract.
First Transit, an international transit operations firm, will assume operations at the start of business Thursday, Nov.1. They are taking immediate steps to hire as many of the existing employees as possible, according to a county government press release.
"First Transit has an excellent reputation in the industry and is known for delivering high quality service. We anticipate a seamless transition to this new contractor and look forward to working with them," said Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly.
