LEXINGTON PARK, Md.—Concerned with a group of gossipy Southern ladies in a small town beauty parlor, Steel Magnolias is alternately hilarious and touching - and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness that underlies the antic banter of its characters.
The Newtowne Players will perform Steel Magnolias Thursdays through Sundays, Sept. 21 to Oct. 7, 2012. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m.; Sunday shows begin at 3:30 p.m. Performances are held at Three Notch Theatre on 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, senior citizens and the military. Thursday shows are $10 general admission. Light refreshments and beverages are also available for purchase at the theatre. On opening night, Sept. 21, the first 100 patrons will also receive a special gift, courtesy of Hair It Is Salon and Spa.
The theater is also asking for donations of wrapped candy to support its participation in Annmarie Garden's Halloween in the Garden Oct. 27. Bins will be provided in the lobby during the run of Steel Magnolias.
Reservations are recommended; call 301-737-5447 or visit http://www.newtowneplayers.org.
The Newtowne Players will also present a special showing of Steel Magnolias at its annual fundraiser, the "Evening Overture," on Sept. 20. Proceeds from the event will go toward replacing the theater's outdated heating and air conditioning system.
Cocktails and light refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m. with the premier performance of Steel Magnolias starting at 7:30 p.m. Additional refreshments and entertainment will be available during intermission and at the conclusion of the performance.
The event has a suggested donation of $50 per person, limited to 100 patrons. Checks can be mailed to The Newtowne Players at P.O. Box 1491, Lexington Park, MD 20653.
