Drug Arrests in St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (August 17, 2012)—The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) Narcotics Division released the following incident and arrest reports. The Division is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police Drug Enforcement Division, and Federal Drug Agents (HIDTA Group 34). The Division was established on September 1st, 2007 and is based in St. Mary’s County.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA/COCAINE: Dennis Martin Evans, 44, of Piney Point, was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Cocaine after items were recovered during the execution of a search and seizure warrant on his St. George Island home. Additional charges are pending a review with the State's Attorney.

SMUGGLING DRUGS INTO JAIL: Detectives received information that prescription medication was going to be smuggled into the St. Mary's County Detention Center. Detectives worked with correctional staff and determined that inmate Courtney Marie Tippett, 20, and Kevin Russell Bryant, 20, of Lexington Park, were conspiring to smuggle prescription medication into the detention center. Suspect Bryant arrived at the Detention Center with another suspect, Jesse Albert Humphries, 59 of Lexington Park. Suspect Bryant approached the building, specifically the area Suspect Tippett was housed, and was taken into custody. Prescription medication was recovered from his person. Suspect Bryant was charged with trespassing, conspiracy to deliver contraband into a place of confinement and drug possession. Suspect Tippett, who was the driving force behind the drug transaction, was charged with conspiracy to deliver contraband. Suspect Humphries was charged with trespassing. All suspects face additional charges pending a State's Attorney's Office review.

PRESCRIPTION DRUG FRAUD: Victoria Gardiner, 45, of Leonardtown, was indicted for her role in a major prescription drug fraud investigation. The fraud began in December 2011 and covered at least three counties. Numerous fraudulent prescriptions were passed in Charles, St. Mary's and Calvert Counties. The total street value of the prescription drugs fraudulently obtained is nearly $85,000. This fraud scheme included insurance fraud. St. Mary's County Vice/Narcotics division is working with investigators from the neighboring jurisdictions in an attempt to identify all of the passed prescriptions. Suspect Gardiner is currently released pending trial.

OXYCODONE DISTRIBUTION: Thomas Wayne Hamilton, 24, of Charlotte Hall, was charged with Possession of Oxycodone with the Intent to Distribute and Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone. Suspect Hamilton was charged for his role in a fraud and distribution network that illegally obtained more than 3,800 pills with a street value of $107,000.

POSSESSION OF HYDROCODONE: Charlene Mae Danenfelser-Burton, 47 of Lexington Park, was indicted and subsequently arrested for Possession of Hydrocodone with the intent to Distribute. While being processed into the Detention Center, several pills were recovered from the Suspect. She was charged accordingly.

POSSESSION OF HYDROCODONE: Christine Lee Calero, 33 of Bowie, was indicted and subsequently arrested for Possession of Oxycodone and Possession of Hydrocodone with the intent to Distribute.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY: Travis Hassler Alhers, 22, of California, was indicted and subsequently arrested for Manufacturing and Unlawful Issue Counterfeit Currency.

POSSESSION OF COCAINE: Michelle Lee Anderson, 37, of Lexington Park, was indicted and subsequently arrested for Possession of Cocaine with the intent to Distribute.

FRAUDULENT PRESCRIPTIONS: David Robert Lowe, 28, of Valley Lee, was indicted for several counts related to passing fraudulent prescriptions.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: Susan Mary Wieber, 45, of Ridge, was indicted following a search and seizure warrant that was executed on her home in Ridge. She was charged with Possession of Marijuana with the intent to Distribute.

POSSESSION OF COCAINE: Sharia Natalia Buck, 24, of Lusby, was indicted for Possession of Cocaine with the intent to Distribute.

SELLING OXYCODONE PILLS: Detectives observed James Thomas Jones, 39, of Hollywood, was observed selling Oxycodone pills to suspect Jerry Allen Stone, 42, of Hollywood, in the parking lot of a California Shopping Center. As detectives approached, Suspect James Jones discarded numerous pills, which were recovered by police. Additional pills were also recovered from Suspect Stone. Both suspects were placed under arrest. Suspect Karen Lynn Jones, 37, of Hollywood, was present along with a small child. Suspect Karen Jones was arrested for illegally possessing 12 Lorazepam pills. Detectives worked with the Department of Parole and Probation due to Suspect James Jones being out on electronic monitoring. He was awaiting sentencing on July 30th for violation of probation. Additional charges are pending a review with the State's Attorney.

DISTRIBUTION OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION: Peter Jens Langer, 19, of Montgomery County, was arrested for Distribution of Prescription Medication. Undercover purchases of the prescription medication were made while the suspect was attending college classes. He was originally held without bond.

DISTRIBUTION OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION: Brenda Lee Grimes, 51, of Leonardtown, was indicted on charges of Distribution of Prescription Medication.

SMUGGLING CONTRABAND INTO JAIL: Detectives, working with the jail's staff, intercepted contraband as a work release inmate attempted to smuggle banned items into the facility. Suspect Joy Marie Jackson, 36, of Lexington Park, was sentenced to the St. Mary's County Detention Center for her role in a robbery. She was granted work release from the court and information was received that she was smuggling banned items which were secreted inside her body. Cigarettes and 16 sleeping aid pills were recovered from her person. She was charged with two counts of possession of contraband in a secured correctional facility.

SEARCH WARRANT REAPS DRUGS, GUNS, CASH: Detectives executed a search and seizure warrant on the home of Johnson Randolph Beckwith. Numerous items of evidence were recovered to include heroine, firearms, and approximately $2,100. Suspect Beckwith was arrested and additional charges are pending a review with the State's Attorney's Office.

DRUG DISTRIBUTION: Jeffrey Glenn Burch, 37, of Lusby, was arrested for his role in a drug operation and was charged with several counts to include conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was originally held without bond.
