LA PLATA, Md. (July 10, 2012)The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
PATROL OFFICER APPREHENDS THEFT SUSPECT: On Jul 9 at 9:10 p.m., officers received a report for a theft in progress at a construction site in the 12200 block of Goldstone Court in La Plata. The caller advised a truck was backed up to a house under construction and the suspect was loading lumber into the truck. Officer R. Bagley was in the area and responded. Upon arrival, Officer Bagley observed a burgundy colored Dodge Ram backed up to the house with several sheets of plywood in the bed of the truck. The officer also found a suspect hiding on the passenger side of the truck. The suspect, Miguel Angel Abundez, 35, of Temple Hills, was linked to the theft and arrested. He was charged with theft and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center.
OFFICERS APPREHENED ASSAULT SUSPECT: On July 8 at 7:20 p.m., officers were called to the 3900 block of Bullitt Neck Road in Marbury for the report of an assault with a weapon. According to the victims, the suspect, William Grinder, 46, of Marbury, walked out to his front yard, pointed a shotgun towards his neighbors across the street, and fired at least one round towards the four victims. Grinder then put the gun on the ground and charged toward the four victims who were able to fight him off until police arrived. Grinder was arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center where he was charged with reckless endangerment and assault. PFC M. Mellott is investigating.
OFFICERS RECOVER EVIDENCE IN BURGLARY: Between July 6 and July 7, unknown suspect(s) broke into a house in the 3200 block of Westdale Court in Waldorf and stole a flat screen TV. Officers responded, processed the scene and recovered evidence. PFC J. Feldman is investigating.
SHOOTING: On July 7 at 1:40 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 4900 block of Derryfield Court in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned there had been a large party at the house and groups of people showed up without being invited. Several arguments broke out and an unknown suspect pulled a gun and fired multiple shots. One of the rounds struck a 19-year-old male in the face. The suspect fled and the victim was transported to a hospital where he was admitted in stable condition. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are working leads in the case and the investigation is on- going. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective J. Elliott at (301) 609-6515. OFFICERS WORKING LEADS IN ROBBERY CASE: On July 5 at 2:50 p.m., officers responded to the call for a citizen robbery that occurred near the railroad tracks just north of Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf. Investigation showed the victim had just withdrawn money from an ATM at a store in Pinefield and was walking home when he was approached by two suspects armed with a gun. They put him in a headlock and stole his money and cell phone. The suspects are described as a large white male wearing a dark, short-sleeved shirt and jeans, and a large black male with a beard wearing a dark green, short-sleeved shirt and light colored pants.
