Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (June 28, 2012)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

CAR CRASH: On June 28 at 3:44 a.m., officers responded to the area of Popes Creek Road and Belvidere Drive in Allens Fresh for the report of a car crash. Upon arrival, Officer C. Curtis observed the driver, an 18-year-old male, trapped and unconscious inside the vehicle. Officer Curtis used his ASP baton to break out a window to try to access the driver's injuries. The driver was eventually extricated from the car and flown to a hospital where he was admitted with serious injuries. The officer was treated for minor cuts he received as he crawled through the broken window to assist the driver. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On June 28 at 8:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mattawoman Drive for the report of a strong-arm robbery. The victim, 21, reported he was walking home when he was approached by two male suspects who threatened him and grabbed his cell phone. The suspects fled, dropping the phone just a short distance away. The suspects were wearing baggy jeans and white tee shirts. Officer D. Butler is investigating.

BURGLARY: On June 28 at 11 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer was conducting a building check at the KIA auto dealer at 3188 Crain Highway in Waldorf when he noticed the glass of the side door was broken out. A perimeter was established and the building was checked. It appeared the suspect(s) made entry and ransacked the office. Pfc. D. Walker is investigating.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On June 26 at 8:12 p.m., officers responded to the area of Sheffield Circle and Scotch Hills Place in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Investigation revealed two teenage males were walking in the area when they were approached by two males in their teens who demanded the victims' cell phones. One victim saw a black handgun in one of the suspect's hands. Both victims threw their phones on the ground and saw the suspects pick them up and flee. The victims then ran back to their house and called the police. Officer J. Hornickel is investigating.

THREE CHARGED IN DRUG-RELATED ROBBERY: Detectives with the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division have charged three people in connection with an assault that occurred during an illegal sale of pain medication. Detectives say that on June 21, at 4:15 p.m., Brittany Dawn Mindick, 21, of La Plata, Tuesday Michelle Wells, 20, of La Plata, and Ray Edward Critchley, 21, of Indian Head, met with two men in the 200 block of Blair Road in Indian Head to sell them prescription pain medications. During the purchase, the suspects physically assaulted the men with their fists, brass knuckles and an edged weapon. Critchley also stole the car keys belonging to one of the men before he fled. Officers responded to the assault and arrested Mindick on the scene. Arrest warrants were obtained for the other two suspects who were arrested on June 26.

indick and Wells were charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of theft. Critchley was charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of first-degree assault, concealed dangerous weapon, two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of theft. Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division conducted the investigation.
