MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 26, 2012)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Thursday, June 21 at 9:40am, TFC E. J. Page served a Bench Warrant (T3-15537) on Michael Jay Straughan, 28, of Hollywood. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Rifle / Shotgun Possession with a Felony Conviction on June 8. Mr. Straughan turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MOTOR VEHICLE: On Friday, June 22 at 2:01am, TFC E. M. Evans conducted a traffic stop on a Red Jeep Wrangler on Route 235 prior to Town Creek Drive in California, Maryland. TFC Evans positively identified the operator, Monte Vito Ghattas, 52, of Solomons Island. While on the traffic stop, TFC Evans detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Mr. Ghattas' breath, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing was performed on the scene which Mr. Ghattas was unsuccessful in completing. Information provided by Mr. Ghattas revealed that the vehicle was being used without permission of the owner. Additionally, a MVA query revealed that Mr. Ghattas' license privileges were suspended. He was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, where he was processed for DUI, then transported to St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Saturday, June 23 at 1:44am, TFC R. L. Jackson, conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Sport Trac Truck on Maryland Route 5, south of Maryland Route 6 for a traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, TFC Jackson positively identified the operator, Ross Allen Goldsmith, 22, of Mechanicsville. While on the traffic stop, TFC Jackson detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Mr. Goldsmith's breath, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing was performed on the scene which Mr. Goldsmith was unsuccessful in completing. Mr. Goldsmith was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. A search incident to arrest revealed that he was is possession of CDS and CDS Paraphernalia. Mr. Goldsmith was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, where he was processed for DUI prior to being transported to St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, June 23 at 9:40am, TPR S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15550) on David Wayne Hayden, II, 25, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Malicious Destruction of Property on June 15. Mr. Hayden turned himself into the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $1,000: On Saturday, June 23 at 13:29pm, TFC G. A. Thompson responded to the 43000 block of Commerce Avenue in Hollywood for a reported theft of copper pipe. Upon arrival, TFC Thompson met with male complainant, 40, of Hollywood who advised Daniel Steven Connelly, 22, of Hollywood stole copper pipe from the establishment and attempted to scrap the pipe at another location in Charlotte Hall. Based on the information provided, Mr. Connelly was arrested for Theft Less Than $1000.00 and issued a Criminal Citation prior to being released from Leonardtown Barrack with a mandatory court date.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Monday, June 25 at 8:15am, TPR S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15556) on Daryl Emanuel Warren, 36, of Lexington Park. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Driving While Suspended on June 22. Mr. Warren was located and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Tuesday, June 26 at 6:45am, TPR S. M. Ditoto served two outstanding Bench Warrants (T3-15261 / T3-15508) on Tanisha Latoya Nolan, 21, of California. Both warrants were issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with original charges of Theft Less Than $100.00. Warrant T3-15261 was issued on December 8, 2011 and Warrant T3-15508 on May 16. Ms. Nolan turned herself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. She was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
